First Aid Basics
Small injuries happen — a scrape, a fin poke, a bumped shin. A little first aid stops small stuff from becoming big stuff.
Know where the kit is
Before the trip starts, ask your adult where the first-aid kit is. On a boat, that is usually near the helm or the cabin.
Rinse cuts with clean water
Saltwater and fish slime are full of bacteria. Rinse any cut with clean freshwater, then cover it with a bandage.
Tell an adult about every injury
Even a small poke from a fin can get infected. Tell an adult right away so you can clean it and keep an eye on it.
