Check the forecast
Look at wind, waves, and any storm warnings before you leave. Ask an adult to help you read the marine forecast for the area.
Thunder means head in
If you hear thunder, lightning is close enough to hit you. Get off the water or off exposed rocks right away.
Wind changes the water
Wind builds waves and can push small boats and kayaks around. If it starts blowing hard, tell an adult so you can head to a protected spot.
