Friday, September 18, we get to do it together on the Estella out of Hooks Landing in Oxnard.
I’ll be on board for both trips — the morning half-day from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM and the twilight from 5:30 PM to 10:30 PM — along with Anthony Mad Dog, Robert Grober, and a bunch of other great Friedman Adventures family members. More than likely you’ll end up on the Friedman Adventures YouTube channel. That’s half the fun. Come hang out, catch fish, and be part of the show.
Today’s Fishing on the Estella
Today the Estella had outstanding fishing. Limits of quality bass. Lots of calico and sand bass in the mix. They hooked four yellowtail and couldn’t stop one of them — big, tough fish that just wouldn’t come. They also hooked a dorado on a Cal patty that got away. That’s the kind of “almost” that tells you the fish are here. Absolutely great fishing.
Bring Sabiki Rigs — It Makes All the Difference
They may have a little bait on board, but we are asking everyone to bring Sabiki rigs to snag mackerel. That makes all the difference in the world. If everybody on board is contributing, we all catch more fish. Today those fish were on a mix of sardines and mackerel. Fresh mackerel you snag yourself is money.
Captain Daniel Hadawi’s Tackle Recommendations
Besides the Sabiki, here is what Captain Daniel Hadawi wants you to bring:
• 25–40 lb fluorocarbon
• Size 1, 1/0, 2/0, and 5/0 J-hooks
• 1/4 oz–3/4 oz sliders
• 6–12 oz torpedo sinkers
• Plastics and surface iron
