Charles Webb & Val Crush Yellowtail at the Coronado Islands π£π₯

Charles Webb from the Stoke for Life Foundation is confined to a wheelchair. That has never kept him from a full outdoor life β and one of the things he loves most is sportfishing.
Yesterday Charles and his friend Val ran out of San Diego to the Coronado Islands, Baja California, Mexico. The weather was beautiful. The yellowtail were home.
Those Coronado yellows will eat bait β principally sardines β when the bait is right. Anybody who has run that program knows the headache: you do not always get the bait you want, and you do not always get it in good shape. That is why you bring yo-yo iron. Right now the iron has been the most consistent way to hook these hard-fighting members of the jack family. The fish yesterday ran from about eight pounds to over twenty.
Look at that photo. That smile is the whole story.
I will be honest with you. When I watch Charles fish, it takes the excuses right out of my mouth. It would have been easy for this paraplegic man to stay on the dock. He does the opposite. He gets on the boat. He puts in the work. He lands the fish. He shows the rest of us that obstacles are in our lives to be overcome.
That is not just a nice sentence. That is strength I borrow on the days I do not feel like going.
About Stoke for Life Foundation
Charles founded this 501(c)(3) to put people with disabilities into the healing power of the ocean β adaptive surfing, paddle clinics, the U.S. Open Adaptive Surfing Championships, and now the Reel Stoke Adaptive Sport Fishing Program. They run small, personal trips so adaptive anglers can actually catch fish, not just get a boat ride. Coronado Islands yellowtail is exactly the kind of day they are built for.
