30 lb Yellowtail on the Amigo at San Clemente Island – Hot Bait Tip from Tom Woodruff

The Amigo just wrapped up a solid day at San Clemente Island with 16 anglers. The final count came in at 10 yellowtail, 30 calico bass, 50 whitefish, 5 sheephead, 20 rockfish, and 3 barracuda. Beautiful weather and nice conditions made for a great day on the island.
One of the anglers on board is a longtime Friedman Adventures family fan — Tom Woodruff. Tom put this big yellowtail on the deck, estimated around 30 pounds, on a fly-lined sardine. He emphasized how important it is to pick a good hot bait and then change that bait regularly. Great advice that paid off with a quality fish.
The Amigo is headed home now and will be trolling jigs along the way. There’s been a lot of marlin activity between San Pedro and San Clemente Island lately, so a marlin, yellowfin tuna, or even a dream wahoo could still show up on the ride back. If they stick something, we’ll let you know right away.
The Amigo operates out of 22nd Street Landing in San Pedro, California.
