Estella Turns Live Mackerel Into Eight Yellowtail Hookups Out of Hooks Landing
The Estella out of Hooks Landing in Oxnard, California had a little go-around with the yellowtail today.
They snagged mackerel for bait — and that mackerel turned into eight hookups. Eight yellowtail on. Two on the deck. These are pretty big fish, and when you are pinning live mackerel on yellowtail this size, a little heavier line is a great idea. 30- to 40-pound fluorocarbon was working best of all.
They also had some good calico bass fishing to go along with it. Now the Estella is focusing her attention on whitefish and rockfish.
Captain Daniel Hadawi and the crew will be running again tomorrow out of Hooks Landing in Oxnard. There is also a twilight trip Sunday evening, 5:30 PM to 10:30 PM.
