Local Wahoo! El Niño 2026 Brings Rare Fish to SoCal Waters 🎣🔥

Hey Friedman Adventure Family,

Big news from the water today. The Islander and the Little G are both reporting wahoo in local waters. That’s not a sentence we get to say very often. Wahoo almost never show this far north, but El Niño 2026 is rewriting the script.

Warm water is pushing tropical species right into our backyard. A couple of private boaters launched out of Oceanside Harbor this morning and found a mile-long kelp field about 17 to 20 miles off Solana Beach. They came home with two dorado, skipjack, bonito, and bullet tuna. That’s the kind of mixed bag you usually have to run a long way south to see.

Another report came in from off Catalina — dorado biting trolled Rapalas. These fish are scattered, but they’re here.

This El Niño is the real deal. Same warm-water push that put a striped marlin on the deck off the Washington coast earlier this summer. When the ocean heats up like this, the whole food chain slides north. That’s why we’re seeing visitors that normally stay down in Mexico.
