NorCal Bluefin ON FIRE! Half Moon Bay Report – Quality Fish to 240+ 🎣🔥

NorCal Bluefin ON FIRE! Half Moon Bay Report – Quality Fish to 240+ 🎣🔥

Incredible bluefin tuna fishing is happening right now in Northern California, and we just got a strong report out of Half Moon Bay from Stefan Grobecker.

Stefan and his crew fished from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. about 25-30 miles offshore and hooked six bluefin. The two fish in this photo are the best of the day. At the ramp the boat behind them pulled out a 240-pounder.

Private boats are generally scoring between two and six fish, with Tanker City Sportfishing putting up the high count of ten. The fish are running from the 25- to 30-pound class up into the 100-pound range, with the occasional 200-plus-pound unicorn mixed in. Everything was caught on Mad Macs in beautiful blue water that reached 61.3 degrees. Every bluefin they saw and brought aboard was stuffed with anchovies and spitting them on the deck.

Whales were lunge-feeding in the same water the tuna were holding in. The fish are being caught from Santa Cruz all the way up to Cordell Bank off Bodega Bay, with the strongest concentration currently between the Farallon Islands and the 601 buoy off Santa Cruz.

Cod Father Sportfishing out of Alameda today had an estimated 230- to 240-pound bluefin.

This kind of consistent multi-fish bluefin action this far north is still special. Bluefin have become a more regular option for NorCal boats in recent warm-water years, but days with quality fish and the occasional 200-pounder still get the whole community buzzing. Looking at the pattern, it looks like the bluefin that were hanging behind San Nicolas Island a week or so ago have worked their way north. The Super El Niño of 2026 has been pushing warmer water and big bait schools up the coast, and the bluefin are following both the food and the temperature bands.

The fish are here, the bait is thick, the water is blue, and the whales are working the same areas. This is exactly the kind of late-summer Northern California bluefin fishing we love to see.
