The Dreamer Moves to Hooks Landing: A White Seabass Legend Heads to the Channel Islands
A lot of anglers are going to feel this one.
The Dreamer, the beloved six-pack that spent years working out of Long Beach — Pierpoint Landing and later Long Beach Sportfishing — has been sold. Longtime owner and skipper Captain Allyn Watson has passed the boat to Chris Volaski at Hooks Landing in Oxnard.
If you fished Southern California white seabass for any stretch of the last couple of decades, you know that name. Allyn and the Dreamer put thousands upon thousands of white seabass on the deck, along with yellowtail, halibut, calico bass, and whatever else was chewing. For a long time, if the seabass were at Catalina, people looked for the Dreamer. That’s how you found the bite.
Now she is heading north, and it is a natural fit. The Channel Islands have been the epicenter of great white seabass fishing for years — Anacapa, Santa Cruz, the outside spots Oxnard boats can reach on a short run. Chris Volaski and the Hooks Landing family are excited to have her in the harbor. A white seabass boat on white seabass water. That is the whole story.
There is work to do before she starts running. Call Hooks Landing for the latest on when the Dreamer will be on the schedule. When she does, she will be available for private charter, and there will be some open-party trips.
