Check out this 12 pound yellowfin tuna caught on the new San Mateo while coming back from Catalina Island. It bit a trolled jig.

This is more evidence that the El Niño is here and bringing some special opportunities to our local waters. It’s unusual to catch yellowfin tuna in these waters during this time of the year.

Just yesterday, Captain Ricky Perez of the Mardiosa reported seeing schools of jumping 10 pound yellowfin tuna only about 10 miles from Angels Gate. The bite is picking up!
