Yellowtail on the Spitfire | Santa Monica Bay Sardine Bite 🎣🔥

Yellowtail are biting in Santa Monica Bay, and the Spitfire out of Marina del Rey Sportfishing is in the middle of it.

Glenn, Glendale Mando, fished the three-quarter day yesterday. He told me the yellowtail were biting, and Marina del Rey has tons of live sardines. That is what made the bite consistent on the fly line. The only real challenge was the crowd. Forty-nine people on board, so it was the yellowtail shuffle. You hook one, you move, and you let the next guy have a lane.

Skipper and owner Jeremy, and the crew, Fabian and Devon, were clutch getting people untangled and landing most of the fish. Glenn said great job to the Spitfire team. The boat also caught and released a mako and a black seabass over 100 pounds. The same angler who got the black seabass caught a lone-wolf white seabass and won the jackpot.

OBrien is on the Spitfire today, and the bite carried over. At noon they already had about a dozen yellowtail and were looking for more, with several hours left. Plenty of good sardines on the boat. He said the best way has been 30-pound fluorocarbon and a 2/0 hook. A few fish on the yo-yo iron, but the vast majority have come on the bait. Weather is beautiful. A little humid, a little hot. He said it feels like the tropics.
