Phil has been finding yellowtail up there, plus bonito, barracuda, and more. Yellowtail was the main event. At the bait receiver they loaded nice sardines and small pinhead anchovies for chum and liked their chances.

Birthday wish granted. 17 yellowtail came to the gaff, all the bonito you could want, and a few barracuda. Beautiful weather. A little humid from the leftover of Hurricane Polo. Then a nice ride home to Berth 55 Sportfishing in Long Beach, home of El Patrón.

How most of those yellowtail were caught: a hot sardine, a ¾-ounce sliding egg sinker, and a 1/0 to 2/0 hook. Still pack yo-yo iron. If sardines are short or gone, iron keeps you in the game.

Happy birthday, Anthony.
