Louie Prieto in Ensenada sent me this photo of a fish that was caught off the rocks at Campo 7, a rocky area near Punta Banda. It looked like a skipjack to me at first, but I ran it by Captain Josh on the New Lo-An and he said it’s a Butter Lip Tuna — very common around the Galapagos Islands!

I’ve never even heard of that before. I sent the same photos to Jeff Lingle, who runs a VIP yacht and takes clients fishing, and he immediately said it looks like a Butter Tuna. He added that long-range legend Captain John Grabowski used to call them that too.
