Today the New Hustler out of Hooks Landing in Oxnard, California scored a striped marlin. Let that sink in — a striped marlin on a Hooks Landing boat fishing the islands. That is the headline.
Yesterday Friedman Adventures was on the half-day Estella. We saw two marlin, we put a yellowfin tuna on the deck, and a pufferfish even swam by the rail. Dorado and yellowfin have been trickling through, and more marlin are moving into the area every day.
This is not normal Channel Islands fishing. Marlin, wahoo, dorado, and yellowfin this close to Oxnard used to be “maybe once in a blue moon.” El Niño 2026 pushed warm water north and these tropical fish came with it. The New Hustler putting a striped marlin on the deck today is the proof.
