Anthony’s Yo-Yo Iron Yellowtail on the Coral Sea | Channel Islands 🎣

Anthony from Mad Dog Custom Rods is on the Coral Sea out of Santa Barbara Landing this morning, and the Channel Islands yellowtail bite is still very much alive.
They started at the oil rigs targeting yellowtail. Anthony was yo-yoing an iron when a sizable yellowtail crashed it. That’s the fish in the photo — a quality Channel Islands yellow on a custom Mad Dog stick.
Yellowtail fishing around the Channel Islands has been excellent lately. Live bait has been the problem. If you’re heading out, do not count on the landing having all the bait you want. Pack yo-yo iron, surface iron, and swimbaits. If you push farther offshore and find yellowfin tuna, have Tuna Riot poppers ready too.
Watch the weather. A Small Craft Advisory is in play for the Channel Islands and outer waters over the next 72 hours. Northwest winds look like 20–30 knots Monday with local gusts to 35, and seas building. Check conditions before you go and listen to the skipper.
