A powerful long-period south-southwest swell is delivering big overhead to well-overhead surf across Southern California right now, with even larger sets at exposed breaks. These hazardous conditions, including strong surge and high rip currents, are expected to continue through Thursday before gradually easing on Friday.
Rogue and sneaker waves can strike suddenly and without warning — never turn your back on the ocean and keep a safe distance from the water's edge when walking the beach. For anglers: fishing from rocks or jetties right now is extremely dangerous and not recommended.
The surge makes footing unpredictable and rescue very difficult.
