Spiny, sneaky, and one of the best-eating fish in the ocean
Sculpin sit tight to rock and reef and bite almost anything dropped in front of them. They carry venomous dorsal spines, so the crew handles them at the rail — but the fillets are among the sweetest you will ever eat.

Captain's tips
- Never handle them yourself — the spines are venomous.
- Fish right on the rocks; they rarely move for a bait.
- A slow lift-and-drop triggers more bites than a still bait.
Table quality
Outstanding — dense, sweet white meat, prized for tacos and ceviche.

10-inch minimum size and a five-fish limit in California.
